Edgetech, the only dedicated Warm Edge Technology manufacturer based in the UK, and Bristol based Super Spacer installer City Glass, recently partnered to complete an unusual Thai Restaurant project in Bristol City Centre. Kevin Cole, Managing Director of City Glass explains why the project was a bit different: "The application to complete the work was submitted to Building Regulations in 2006, at which time the space was categorised as a shop display window. This meant it was not a heated space and did not have any requirements above clear glass. We felt that as the purpose for the space had changed, so had the requirements for the glass that needed replacing, so we upgraded the units we were installing to Low E glass and Super Spacer warm edge technology to achieve improved thermal efficiency, at no extra cost to the client. As well as comply with the design and contractual obligations on this project, we also felt we had a moral obligation to provide the client with best possible specification in order to increase future energy savings and customer comfort.

"The project involved the manufacture and installation of approximately 200 units because 80% of the building's walls are glazed. City Glass completed the project within the ten week timescale it was given. This was achieved despite the fact that because of the shape of the space we needed to glaze, we also had to order in special mullion profiles from Belgium which could have the glazing flanges rolled back at an angle. These angles were calculated following a full site survey and had to take into consideration the fact that the low level bath stone walls were plus or minus 45mm in radius. We could only complete the project in such a short space of time with the support of all its suppliers including Seleda Quality Units who provided the Super Spacer insulated glass units and Smart Systems. City Glass had to complete its work on the inside of the building first too, to allow all the other trades people to work unhindered on the inside."
